CleanPower AS in 2010 made a pilot installation based on the very first Turbinator-model.
The project demonstrates how suitable the Turbinator is for producing electricity from a reserved / environmental flow outlet - in this case the mandatory outlet from the Hegset dam, located in the Nea riverbed south east of Trondheim, Norway. The outlet shall secure a flow of 1.5 m3 per second at a measurement point a few kilometers downstream. The outlet operates five months per year, May through September.
Customer and partner in the project has been the dam owner Statkraft Energi AS.
As this is a pilot project being the first full scale demonstration of the technologies developed by CleanPower AS, the project was financed as an IFU-contract part financed by Innovasjon Norge. A central element of such a contract is that the supplyer company (CleanPower) and the customer company (Statkraft) cooperates on a project with a significant R&D content, and that the project is a necessary step towards commercialisation of the developed technologies.
Under this contract model the project costs have been shared between the three parties: CleanPower, Statkraft and Innovasjon Norge.
The design parameters of the installation are:
- Head 24 m
- Water flow 1.2 m3/s
- Installed power 280 kW
